Some information on Barbel Fishing (Catfish Fishing):
As barbel like to hunt their prey they can be found in all depths of water but they will prefer to hunt where there are small prey fish available. In strong flowing rivers they tend to lie in the deeper pools or behind rocks waiting for their pray to swim past.
When fishing for Barbel (Catfish Fishing) always have a look if there are any overhanging trees with birds’ nests in them. Barbel love to lie under trees and wait for one of the small birds to fall out of the tree. Barbel prefer eating fresh bait but sometimes they will even go for something that is a little older and has somewhat of a smell to it.
The best baits to use when Catfish Fishing is platannas, day old chicks or chicks still in the egg, “miswurms”, chicken livers and fish heads. The more blood there is the better as barbell can smell the blood in the water over a long distance, the same as a shark would.
